What are Scrapplets?

Imagine a place on the web where you had complete creative control. A web page like no other. One where you can post a picture with a few clicks and adding text to go with it is even easier. One where you can drag text and images from other web pages and drop them right onto yours. Now add videos, music, RSS feeds and web links with equal ease. Don't forget to include your favorite widgets too. Now use your mouse to arrange the page however you like, with click-and-drag ease, because there are no templates here. Finally, imagine combining that page with the power of Facebook so you could share it, send it, and even drag your friends' profiles right onto it. What could be better than that? How about having several such pages, each with a unique URL, so you could create pages for work, school, friends, family... whatever you want. If you can grasp all of that, than you have just touched the surface of what a Scrapplet is. Imagine that.

How to Get a Scrapplet Page

Scrapplets are available to all Facebook members. Just CLICK HERE and login to your Facebook account as usual and follow the steps below.

Below the My Scrapplets tab, click on create new page.
When the dialog box opens, enter a TITLE and a DESCRIPTION for the page and specify who can see it. (You can change all of these settings later if you wish.)
Click on the SAVE button and you are done. A new blank Scrapplet page appears.

Putting Stuff on Your Scrapplet Page

From the main scrapplet page, click on any of your Scrapplets to access the authoring mode. If you don't see this menu, you need to login to Facebook. Click on the My Account link in the top right corner of the window to log in, Use the Site Map to return to your Scrapplet page.

ADDING TEXT: Click on the Text in the Add menu and choose the type of text. Scrapplet gives you a few preformatted options depending on whether you want to add a Text Block, Headline, Caption, or a Footnote.

ADDING PICTURES, MUSIC, and VIDEO: To add pictures, music, and video, click on the appropriate item in the Add menu. After making your selection, a dialog box will open. Enter the URL that points to that file and click the 'Save' button.

Examples:

Picture Link: http://www.mywebsite.com/images/nicefish.jpg
Scrapplet pages support image files in .gif, .jpg, and .png formats
Music Link: http://www.mywebsite.com/redlight.mp3
Scrapplet supports music files in .mp3 format only.
Video Link: http://www.mywebsite.com/surprise.flv
Scrapple supports video in .flv format only. You can drag-and-drop YouTube videos right onto the page.

ADDING WEB SITES and RSS FEEDS: To add web sites or RSS feeds to your page, click on Web in the Add menu and make the appropriate selection. Specify the URL to the web page or RSS feed you want to add. A list of common RSS feeds are provided which you select from a list.

Websites can added in three different ways:

Embedded: This option adds a window that displays the web page, so its content can be viewed on the Scrapplet page.
Linked: This creates a link to the web site from the page's URL.
Button: This creates a traditional button that opens the web page.

ADDING FACEBOOK FRIENDS: To add links to your Facebook friends, click on Friends in the Add menu and select 'Your Friends'. This opens a window displaying profiles of all your current Facebook Friends. Drag a profile image from the window and drop it onto your page. Repeat as desired. Click 'Cancel' to close the window. To visit a friend's page, just click on their profile image!

ADDING A BACKGROUND IMAGE: To add a background image (or color) to your page, select Background from the Add menu and choose 'Set Background'. Use the dialog box to specify one of the following:

None. No background (defaults to white)
Color. Click on one the provided colors, or specify your own in the field provided.

Note: You can also set an image as a background by holding down the CTRL key as you drag it from the web or Google images and drop it onto your Scrapplet page. [for IE 6.0 or above only]

Image. Specify the URL to an image you would like to use as a background. Choose options to tile the image, center it, or make it scrollable with the page.

NOTE: If you are using IE 6.0 or above, you can add many types of objects to your page simply by dragging it from an adjacent browser window and dropping it on your Scrapplet page. The methods outlined above work for all browsers.
